January 2012
APD Architecture have recently moved to new premises. See CONTACT section of this site for more details.

Private House, Megswell Farm, North Ayrshire

Planning permission was granted in November 2011 for this new house and stable block. We are now developing the detail design with a view to construction beginning in the middle of this year.

House Conversion/ Extension, Ardrishaig, Argyll

Extensive works, to refurbish and extend 'The Sheiling', are nearing completion. The reconfigured ground floor creates a utility and washroom area to the rear and newly open-plan living/kitchen space connecting through to the extension at the front. This zinc clad and glazed addition is now standing in place, providing the neighbours with something to talk about and our client a space from which to enjoy the stunning views out to Loch Fyne and beyond.

Factory Extension, Lactalis/ Caledonian Cheese, Stranraer

Planning permission was obtained for the Cheese Store project in August last year and construction work is now well underway, with the steel frame erection imminent. As part of the trade effluent disposal works a new balancing tank is being constructed and we have also been appointed to develop proposals for a new 11km long pipeline from the Stranraer factory to the North Channel. This includes the design of several new structures to carry the pipe, such as a new bridge spanning over the Lochans Valley. We are in discussions with the local authority regarding the pipeline installation being carried out in such a way that it can be utilised for a future cycleway, linking Stranraer and Portpatrick.

Private House, Symington

A planning application has been submitted for a small private house on the edge of Symington, South Lanarkshire. The plan form and massing have been carefully developed in order to relate to the local vernacular and to work within the tight constraints of the site; maximising privacy, daylight and views.

Private House, Pentland Avenue, Edinburgh

The envelope of the house is now complete and both the internal fit-out and the landscaping works are now underway with completion due in the summer of this year. These internal views show the variety of dramatic spaces and views that will unfold as you move through the house.

Taoist Tai-Chi Centre, Edinburgh

A detailed planning application has recently been made for the conversion of an existing building in East Edinburgh, to become the Scottish headquarters of the Taoist Tai Chi Society of Great Britain. The new centre will include a hall with the capacity to hold classes for up to 100 society members and ancillary spaces. The centre is due to open in the early summer this year.

House Conversion/ Extension, East Edinburgh

Completion of this substantial domestic refurbishment and extension will be achieved next month. The extension is a light-filled space allowing connectivity between the garden and the new mezzanine, dining and kitchen spaces.

House Conversion/Extension, Creetown, Dumfries and Galloway

On a hilltop above Creetown is a derelict farm-steading. We have developed proposals for the re-construction of an existing ruined cottage and a new timber-clad building. Together they are organised to form an 'L' shaped building that will enclose a courtyard and vegetable garden. Generous glazing to the public spaces, housed within the new element, will make the most of the excellent views to the Solway Firth, whilst the stone built cottage is used to accommodate the more private spaces.
